Allegheny Power and Dominion Power have announced plans for a 500-kilovolt
power line through Frederick, Warren, Fauquier and Prince William Counties.
The aim is to feed power from Ohio and other states into the Northeast
power grid. The power line could slash a 200-foot wide path through battlefields,
parks, prime farm and forest lands, historic sites and districts, nationally-acclaimed
viewsheds and more than 80,000 acres of land under conservation easement.
The power companies and PJM Interconnection, which controls the region's
power grid, hopes to gain approval this fall for the new power corridor.

Environmental Council's page
on the powerline.

This map shows the Dominion Power Study Area. Alleghany Power plans to
build the portion through Frederick County, following the same corridor,
but did not provide a similar map of their study area.
Ten Serious Problems with Dominion and Allegheny's Proposal
There are several reasons to oppose this particular power line
proposal, from "this new poweline may not be needed " to "piecemeal
approval of power lines sets bad energy policy" to "it would
deface one of the most protected landscapes in America". Visit this
page to learn ten serious problems with Dominion and Allegheny's 500-kV
power line proposal.
