Clark County
While Clarke
County is part of the Shenandoah River Watershed, the Shenandoah Valley
Network relies on the Piedmont
Environmental Council (PEC)to address issues in Clarke County. The
Piedmont Environmental Council has an office in Berryville and staff who
focus on program work in Clarke County. As part of the Shenandoah Valley
Network, the PEC Clarke staff also works with SVN on regional issues,
especially those that impact Warren, Frederick and Clarke residents.
Summary
of Issues in Clarke County
Mountain
Land Plan
Clarke County
has become a model of controlled growth and protection of scenic and agricultural
land. Last year, almost 1000 acres of land in Clarke County were permanently
protected by donated conservation easements. In June, the County adopted
the revised Mountain
Land Plan, which contains many important protections for fragile mountain
land, including groundwater recharge protection, better erosion control
and slope stabilization.
Newsletter
on Conservation
Last fall, Piedmont Environmental Council sent a newsletter to every household
in the county discussing Clarke's land conservation issues and recent
successes. Read it here.
